Creepshow graphic novel
Creepshow graphic novel v1 #nn (no number), 1982 - This graphic novel adapts the 1980s George Romero movie of the same name. Bernie Wrightson, one of DC's best horror artists, is tasked with illustrating this collection of Stephen King tales. The artist opens with a wonderfully ghoulish portrait of the host, following the format of the controversial EC Comics of the 1950s. The visual sequencing of the five stories remain mostly true to the film, but the artist makes few attempts to closely resemble the actors (his depictions of Leslie Nielsen and Hal Linden come closest). This doesn't detract from the overall effect and Wrightson's creatively designed titles (especially "Father's Day" and "The Crate") provide further enhancements. While certain pages seem unnecessarily sparse, Wrightson generally meets expectations. The cover is by EC Comics veteran Jack Kamen.
