Green Lantern / Green Arrow v2 #87, 1972 - After recruiting John Stewart into the Green Lantern corps, Hal Jordan learns some lessons in humility. His first appearance marks him as DC comics' first mainstream African-American super-hero. Neal Adams, nearing the end of his run on the title, does an excellent job portraying the complexities of the character. The following tale features a solo Green Arrow in the midst of an urban neighborhood riot. More intense and emotionally charged, Adams draws the scenes superbly. Many panels display a sensitivity not dissimilar to photo-journalism. Although Dick Giordano is credited as inker, it seems obvious that the majority of pages are completed by Adams (specifically pages 1, 6, 8-12). Both stories were later reprinted in Green Lantern Green Arrow #6. This is 13 of 15 Green Lantern v2 issues by Adams. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover, 1st origin John Stewart / Adams gallery
